Gamification has been defined as the usage of game elements in non-game contexts (Deterding et al, 2011), to promote certain behaviours in individuals (Hamari & Koivisto, 2015). Since it is a recent, gamification has been research from a benefit search point of view in areas like marketing, management and education concept (Rodrigues, Oliveira & Rodrigues, 2019). However, there is a lack of transversal studies about the negative side of gamification and its potential limitations. The main purpose of this study was to understand the negative effects and limitations of the implementation of gamification or gamified elements, mentioned throughout scientific literature of several areas. We have thus performed a systematic review of literature covering 84 scientific texts published between 2005 and 2020 in scientific journals of Q2 or higher. We then used Leximancer to extract the main themes and concepts considered. We concluded that “gamification”, “learning”, “performance”, “behaviour” and “brand were the main themes underlying the investigation conducted in the analysed period. Moreover, “brand”, “effects”, “context” and “behaviour” are the closest concepts to “negative”, which is also associated with “control” and “performance”. We confirmed gamification does have a negative side, which depends on the context and is mainly present in learning situations. The theoretical basis brought by our study allows for future investigation on the context factors that hinder the efficacy of gamification in learning situations

Portuguese recommendations for the use of methotrexate in the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis

Objectives:To develop Portuguese evidence-based recommendations for the use of methotrexate (MTX) in daily clinical practice in rheumatic disorders. Methods:The Portuguese project was integrated in the multinational 3E Initiative (Evidence, Expertise, Exchange) 2007-2008 where a total of 751 rheumatologists from 17 countries have participated. Ten clinical questions concerning the use of MTX in rheumatic diseases were formulated and the Portuguese group added three more questions. A systematic literature search in Medline, Embase, Cochrane Library and 2005-2007 ACR/EULAR meeting abstracts was conducted. Selected articles were systematically reviewed and the evidence was appraised according to the Oxford Levels of Evidence. In Portugal, a national meeting was held in Obidos on February 15 th and 16 th, 2008, involving 50 rheumatologists who discussed and voted by Dephi method the recommendations. Finally, the agreement among the rheumatologists and the potential impact on their clinical practice was assessed. Results: Thirteen national key recommendations on the use of MTX were formulated: work-up before starting MTX, optimal dosage and route of administration, use of folic acid, monitoring, management of hepatotoxicity, long-term safety, mono versus combination therapy, management in the perioperative period, during infections, before/during pregnancy and after clinical remission, screening and treatment of tuberculosis and the role of MTX as a steroid-sparing agent in rheumatic diseases. Discussion: The Portuguese recommendations for the use of MTX in daily clinical practice were developed, which are evidence-based and supported by a panel of 50 rheumatologists, enhancing their validity and practical use. This project was integrated in a multinational initiative that led to the recent publication of ten multinational recommendations which differ from ours in some specific aspects.publishersversionpublishe

A enfermagem se destaca na produção do conhecimento nessa temática.<br>This article presents an integrative review about studies that address the relationships between health professionals and users in health care practices. It aimed to identify aspects that were researched on the daily life of the services concerning such relationships. Data were collected from the Lilacs and Pubmed databases based on these descriptors: user embracement; professionalfamily relations; professionalpatient relations; humanization of the care; and the bonding word associated to the Single Health System descriptor. Two hundred and ninety studies, published from 1990 to 2010, were selected. Through thematic analyses, five meaning cores were created: the relevance of the confidence in the professionaluser relationship; feelings and senses in the health care practice; the importance of communications in health care services; ways to organize health care practices and (de)colonialism. It was found that relationships established in health care practices have a transformative dimension. However, the challenge to humanize health care services remains. Nursing stands out in the production of knowledge on such theme

Characterisation of microbial attack on archaeological bone

    Get PDF
As part of an EU funded project to investigate the factors influencing bone preservation in the archaeological record, more than 250 bones from 41 archaeological sites in five countries spanning four climatic regions were studied for diagenetic alteration. Sites were selected to cover a range of environmental conditions and archaeological contexts. Microscopic and physical (mercury intrusion porosimetry) analyses of these bones revealed that the majority (68%) had suffered microbial attack. Furthermore, significant differences were found between animal and human bone in both the state of preservation and the type of microbial attack present. These differences in preservation might result from differences in early taphonomy of the bones. © 2003 Elsevier Science Ltd. All rights reserved
